Zoom

analog print series, 2023-2025

Zoom is a series of analog prints developed from photographs taken in the city of Irpin, Kyiv region, Ukraine. Documenting the destroyed sites in Irpin proved to be a challenging material to engage with—uncomfortably close to what could be described as “war porn,” images of complete devastation and ruin. This experience initiated a critical reflection on the act of looking itself, as well as on the broader issue of how the media circulation of war imagery leads to continuous reproduction that distorts the original image and erodes its representational capacity. Perception becomes blurred and selective; vision loses clarity. The eye starts wandering, imagining, and ultimately dismissing the original content of the image. Zoom highlights this crisis of vision by showing how looking, repetition, and reproduction gradually turn images of violence into unstable, fragmented impressions that can no longer be interpreted in an unambiguous way.
